Project Update – August 2020

What is Happening on Brock St.?

The low-flow culvert sections are now installed across Brock St. The contractor will install the high-flow culvert next. Heavy rainfall in August impacted the work but the crews are working extra hours to help with the schedule.  The contractor estimates that Brock St. will reopen in October.

What is Happening on Centennial Drive?

Crews have completed the shoring system between the buildings and are now moving south to prepare the Centennial Dr. section for excavation. Centennial Dr. will close to through traffic on Tuesday, September 8th until the end of December. The closure will restrict both pedestrians and vehicles from using Centennial Dr. Here is some key information:

  • Vehicles can enter the Chances Are parking lot from Bascom St.
  • Vehicles can travel on Poplar St. and use the Municipal Parking lot behind the Medical building and the Library.
  • Pedestrians are encouraged to use the walkway through Centennial Park to travel from Poplar St. to Bascom St. There will be directional signage to encourage use of the path.
  • Signs at the parking lot behind the Library will direct pedestrians to the walkway beside the Library and to the pathway through Centennial Park.

What is Happening Between the Buildings South of Brock?

Crews have installed the shoring and removed the head wall between Brock St. and the excavation. The 120-year-old stone arch beneath Brock St. is being removed and some of the component pieces have been retained for historical interest.

Water Levels in the Uxbridge Brook

The water levels in the Uxbridge Brook and Elgin Pond may fluctuate as contractors move the flow of the Uxbridge Brook into the completed culvert channel.
